The general Scope of Work for the Repair F414 Jet Engine Facility – Building 170 (60,000sf) design build project included restoration and modernization work at the exterior and interior of the original portion of the building. The building is located adjacent to an active aircraft parking apron.

As the only facility in the U.S. Navy that repairs F-414 afterburner sections, the work was performed in phases to keep the facility operational during the renovation work. The design therefore required developing a plan to keep critical systems, such as electrical, mechanical, and communications operational while they were also being upgraded. Keeping the Users in operation necessitated temporary facilities which were provided on the adjacent aircraft parking ramp to house some of the engine repair functions.
